Dental Crown

Rendering of jaw with dental crownDr. Swanson uses dental crowns, sometimes referred to as a cap, to restore teeth when their strength has been severely weakened. After a tooth has been damaged from fracture, decay, or due to a root canal, it has lost significant strength. Without a crown, the tooth will continue to deteriorate just with normal daily use. Crowns encase the natural tooth and protect it, allowing you to chew and speak as you normally would and protect the tooth.

Cosmetic Composite Crowns

At our Seattle office, we can help. After the natural tooth surface is prepared, with cleaning and slightly decreasing its size, Dr. Swanson places the crown to cover the entire natural tooth. Crowns work as a shield, providing additional strength to the tooth structure and also helps the tooth from future decay. Many patients love their dental crown because it improves your tooth's shape, alignment and the overall look. There have been advancements in dental crowns, they are now stronger and more natural looking than ever before!

Crowns are used to:
•  repair a cracked or fractured tooth
•  restore a tooth that is severely damaged by decay
•  protect a tooth following root canal therapy
•  cover a tooth that is badly discolored due to fluorosis or medications
•  serve as an anchor for a dental bridge
•  place on top of a dental implant
