Dental Sealants

Young boy smiling with healthy teethDental sealants are used to help prevent tooth decay. The sealant material is a plastic that we literally paint on to the teeth that are most susceptible to cavities, the back molars. The grooves of your back teeth can trap food and be more difficult to clean than casual brushing and rinsing. We have found that children with sealant on their molars have significantly fewer cavities, helping them keep their teeth healthier while they are still learning preventative care.

Dental sealants are very durable but they are not permanent. We typically assume them to last up to 5 years of normal wear before needing replacement.

Sealants are a great option, they offer a cost-effective, preventative step in reducing the chances of tooth decay on the chewing surfaces of molars. Sealants are a valuable preventative measure but it does not replace a good daily oral hygiene routine, we still stress the importance of regular brushing and flossing.
