Dental fillings are used to restore tooth damage caused by decay, it is often associated with the term "cavity," this is a common Restorative procedure. When a tooth has decayed, it has created a way for bacteria to continue to damage the tooth, which will then extend to the root and will eventually kill the tooth. Dr. Swanson wants to stop that process, and restore your tooth to its natural function for normal daily use. Catching this early will save you both pain and expense.

Tooth Colored Fillings

At our Seattle office, Dr. Swanson primarily uses resin composite (tooth-colored) fillings which are virtually undetectable. Composite fillings have advanced over the years. Traditionally Amalgam (silver) fillings were the more durable product but the material used today is equally strong and is now recommended even for back teeth. In addition to being more aesthetic, composite fillings bond directly to the tooth surface, unlike traditional amalgam or silver fillings. Amalgam is used only in the rare instances where composite would not have a good prognosis.
